  • My first iPad was a third generation iPad named Clifford. When I eventually replaced Clifford with a new iPad Pro named Concordia, Clifford shifted towards being a dedicated iPad for my kids. It was a good concept, but I quickly realized that at that point, Clifford was in old age, technology speaking -- he was no longer receiving operating system updates, which meant that some apps would no longer work, battery life had degraded signficiantly, and just in general performace was subpar to the point that it was not pleasant to use.
  • So, it did not take long before I decided to retire Clifford and replace him with a new iPad specifically for my kids' use. At that point, the new entry-level iPad had recently been released as a more basic alternative to the iPad Pro. This base iPad was just right for use by kids, with a reasonable price tag, so was the logical choice, and so that was the iPad I got, named Cardea. It also was the first big technology purchase made exclusively for my kids!
