Calypso

  • Calypso is a 2020 MacBook Air with M1 chip. Prior to getting Calypso, my family had two laptops -- Aurora, a 2020 MacBook Pro intended for use by me and my wife, and Venus, a 2013 MacBook Pro which I consider a "family" computer for use by everyone, but especially used lately by my oldest son. For a 2013 computer, Venus actually continues to get quite a bit of use and holds up remarkably well. But, she no longer gets OS updates beyond macOS Big Sur, and as my son's computer needs have increased it more often feels like Venus is at her limits. So, I wanted to get Calypso in order to replace Venus as the "family" computer. However, Venus is still not being retired -- she is shifting to be used primarily by my youngest son.
  • This laptop is amongst the first computers that were released with the Apple M1 CPU, Apple's first custom desktop-class CPU. This represented a substantial leap forward for performance. This laptop has much more processing power than Aurora, an Intel-based MacBook Pro, which was released earlier in the same year.
  • This computer was originally obtained December 18, 2022.
